The Lovely List - Friday Wrap Up

Lets take a look back at some lovely posts we've seen around the wedding web this week...

*Finding the perfect dress for your bridesmaids just got a whole lot easier thanks to Pantone, but Style Me Pretty let us know all about it

*Some gorgeous unconventional wedding dresses

*People can be so creative! Super simple DIY placecard holders

*Do you think your groom could handle this look?

*We love this dress too but it definitely falls outside our $5000 limit

*Perfect Valentine's Day or honeymoon attire

*Stunning 1920s inspired gowns

*Real Wedding love: Kelli + Sam, Anna + Ben, and Jacki + Steven

A wonderful weekend to all!

PS...This weekend is my big dress outing with my mom and bridesmaids. We'll be hitting up quite a few shops in the city. I look forward to telling you all about it. Wish me luck!

One Great Dress-Shortie

The dress! The shoes! The veil! The bouquet! The GROOM! Everything is coming together and working perfectly for this gorgeous bride. This is our first shortie One Great Dress and we couldn't have asked for better one to start with. Libby's entire looks is flawless. She manages to be modern and classic all at once. And there are just no words to describe how fabulous her shoes are. The whole wedding is pretty wonderful and you can see more by visiting Once Wed.

{ALT} Bride - Prints and Trims

We've seen a lot of alternative wedding dresses around the blogs the past few weeks. Emerald green, jet black...all so fun and daring. But if you are prefer to put your toe in the water and not dive in, we love the subtle details that make a gown unique but still very bridal.

The two prints on the top have just the right amount of spunk (a fun polka dot with black trim shot by Rodney Smith and a Carolina Herrera gown from her Spring 2010 collection.) These illustrate how a subtle print can work for a more preppy bride or a romantic bride. Or if you really aren't taking the plunge, but like to lounge by the edge of the pool taunting the boys, you can have some fun with color through the buttons on the backside. The black and white is again more of a clean trimmed look...just the right hint of Audrey Hepburn, again shot by the photo love of our life, Rodney Smith. Or you can show your sass by hot pink buttons like the ones on this wedding gown designed and worn by the Lovely Heidi Elnora (who will we carry exclusively at Lovely this spring!)

White Bridesmaid Dresses

It may seem a little premature to be thinking about bridesmaid dresses when I've yet to even try on a dress for myself, but I'm just loving these girls in white. The look can be soft and casual or glam and fun.

A little bit of trivia: In Roman times, superstition dictated that bridesmaids must be dressed similar to the bride, acting as decoys to confuse evil spirits and thus protect the bride from harm.

Color Inspiration-Red Lips and White Dresses

Alright, I know V-day is a solid two weeks away, but we love that Abby started the homage early over on Style Me Pretty, and we are happy to play along! We thought we'd share something we've been obsessing over lately....the color red. We're not going to lie to you, red felt a little passé. But lately, coupled with a velvety black, it seems totally retro and dreamy again. Or perhaps it's just our new found obsession with vampire novels that are swaying us that way.

Bottom row and dresses: Le Blog De Betty and Marc by Marc Jacobs, Marc Bower, ABS, Green Envelope and Aiden Mattox all from Bluefly

These super cute accessories are a great way to pull together the look of your whole wedding party. Bride and bridesmaids AND groom and groomsmen can all share a unique but unified look with a flower from EmersonMade.

Your wedding is perhaps the only chance you'll have to wear matching accessories with your husband!

A boutonniere from EmersonMade will last forever! And the sashes make a great gift for your bridesmaids.

We love these tie tacks! A great touch to any wedding party (including dad and grandpa!)
EmersonMade goes beyond weddings too. Check out their clutches and gorgeous big red poppies to spice up any outfit. The shop is endless prettiness!

The Lovely List-Friday Wrap Up

It seems selfish to not share the things we found around the web last week! So Lovely is going to add another Friday feature called The Lovely List to give a little more 'what what' to the amazing bloggers we obsess over each week. Give a little love to the following:

*A 'Bow'dacious collection of images on Daydream Lily
*Some over-the-top Elie Saab gowns on Classic Bride
*In time for the big V-Day, a dress made of hearts at Lace & Tea
*Stay warm for a winter wedding with these FAB fur jackets from This is Glamorous
*I keep stalking these photos on Style Me Pretty. The flowy Christos dress and the floral belt are too pretty not to peek again and again.

Happy Weekend!

One Great Dress-Maxed out Mermaid

This dress has extra va-va in it's voom. But if you are going to go for the mermaid, we think it's best to go for it and let that dress do the work! With the right fit, it can give you a waist the size of your wrist and Marilyn Monroe curves.

Asymmetrical Neckines

Ready to break out of the mold?! An asymmetrical neckline might just do the trick. Sometimes it can feel like the only option for wedding dresses is strapless, but there's a great big world out there. Interesting and unique dresses abound, even from the most traditional of designers. So, go sans necklace and show off that collarbone! You'll be sure to wow your guest and husband to be in this definite fashion statement.

Color Inspiration-Playdough brights

Remember playdough??? Ok maybe, just maybe, you don't want your wedding to be inspired by it, but how fun is a palette of fun quirky brights? Could be great for the lighthearted rehearsal dinner or maybe a fun filled backyard party complete with lawn games? Destination wedding south of the border? We love the idea of playing up the fun retro throwback palette!

{ALT} Bride - Color

Recently, I saw The Sweetest Occasion's pick for pink wedding dresses as a favorite trend for 2010 weddings, and it really got me thinking... If white (or ivory) wasn't the norm would I go for another color? Here are my favorite considerations for alternatives, pink and other, to the traditional white dress.

Absolutely love this sparkling grey dress from Reem Acra

Soft pink perfection from Sarah Seven (a Lovely designer!)

Be extremely original in pale aqua from Carol Hannah

My two favs vintage and gold from Charlotte Casadejus

Elegant and whimsical taupe from J. Mendel

Ultimately, I know a white dress is for me. I actually really love the color 'white' (my staple outfit is a white t-shirt and jeans). Still, it's good to know us brides have more options these days. So if your favorite color is blue and you look awesome in blue, I say go for it.

Golden Globes 2010 Fashion Recap

GG 2010 red were just ok. Not a ton of fashion risks, but as always there were a couple of shining fashion moments that will likely translate into some fab bridal gowns. Here are Lovely's favs...

Emily Blunt in Dolce and Gabanna and Maggie Gyllanhaal in Roland Moret look great in the mermaid silhouette. The architectural pleats make both dresses look modern.

The peplum trend looks great on a more sleek skirt. Kate Husdon's va va voom Marchesa and Christina Hendrick's Christian Siriano both have a vintage flair. We've seen the peplum on a full skirt from Monique Lhuillier, but a straight skirt style feels very 'next.'

Some honorable mentions are the ruffle and the and the one shoulder. Anna Kendrick looks beautiful, but a little too mature and Nicole Kidman looks sweet in her Nina Ricci.

Christina Aguiliera is pretty rocking in the Versace, but this look would be tough to pull off for bridal. Last but not least, Chloe Sevigny has a daring twist on the ruffle in a Valentino dress. It could overwhelm some, but she pulls it off gracefully.

Unfortunately, 2010 paled in comparison to some of our 2009 GG favorites. Let's recap with a look at some of our favs from last year....

Sandra Bullock in Christian Dior, Kate Beckinsdale in J Mendel, Olivia Wilde in Reem Acra, and Drew Barrymore in Christian Dior

One Great Dress-Vintage but Modern

Being 'inspired by' vintage is much different than vintage. No one wants their wedding photos to look like they walked off the screen of a Mad Men episode, but the references to the past are what makes a wedding look vintagey modern. Well we love love love, can't get enough of Jen's fabulous dress in her recent wedding to Brian, shot by One Love Photo. She has just the right amount of vintage inspiration, but manages to look fresh and modern in her look. We wouldn't even call it current, we would call it timeless. For more dress envy, visit One Love's site or the post Style Me Pretty did on this wedding. And click on the photo below to view the detail...this dress deserves it!

Bridal Cardigans-Necessity is the Mother of Invention

LOVING this look! It’s practical, elegant and could make a girl wish for a chilly wedding day. These brides look so classy (and warm!) in a fitted jacket or sweater over their ball gown dresses. What a simple and beautiful way to get two looks without the cost of a second dress!

Holy Ban.Doly

The new Ban.Do bridal collection is so fantastic, that I may just wear that bow out for no good reason. I love how modern bridal headwear has gotten these days. It really feels like a justified purchase if you can wear it again. And how fun would it be to celebrate your anniversary every year by finding some fabulous venue to wear it to on a date with the hubs! We'll be carrying Ban.Do in Lovely for sure!

Something New...blogger Amanda Wright

Having been married for a whopping six months now, I thought it would be cool to get another voice into this blog...a 'something new' if you well. Enter the lovely Amanda Wright...newly engaged, fashion saavy, and a Type A like myself who will leave no stone unturned to find the perfect dress! Her search is your gain, so enjoy another take on the mission to find the ultimate wedding dress!

Hello Lovely Ladies!
I’m Amanda…a recently engaged New Yorker, who fell in love with the idea for Lanie’s new store Lovely. I can’t wait for this much needed addition to the bridal scene in NYC. But in the meantime, I’m looking forward to sharing my experiences searching for the perfect LWD (long white dress, instead of LBD!) or just about anything else wedding fashion related. I spend a lot of time reading wedding blogs, so I’ll be sure to share the best of the best that I find.

But now, let’s get down to business with one of my truly dream dresses!

image left:
image right: Amy Michelson

It’s the one of the left and the only picture I can find of this amazing Carolina Herrera dress. The unique neckline really gets me, you rarely seen anything like it! I’m all about unique when it comes to a wedding dress. As long as it says YOU, and hey we are all unique, then it can’t be wrong. I’ve been told this dress is no longer being made so I’m out of luck, but it’s the inspiration for my search, the dress by which all others will be compared. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Delphine Manivet-A Wedding Dress ANGEL

Seriously...I think I died and went to heaven. These dresses are not only insanely beautiful, but they are like nothing I've seen before! So wonderful to see a fresh approach on bridal. Luckily, I won't have to admire them from afar, because the talented French designer Delphine Manivet will be premiering in the United States in Lovely this Spring! I can't wait to to carry Delphine's line in my store! Come pay it a visit when we open, s'il vous plait! And a Merci to Amanda Wright, a lovely bride-to-be who introduced me to Delphine's repertoire.

One Great Dress-Four Pictures

Ok so we cheat a bit this week and show off a couple of angles of this dress. Can you blame us? It's an architectural genius of a dress, shot by 4Eyes Photography. Happy Weekend!

{ALT} Bride-Beach Wedding

Daydreaming of a beach in Santorini right now...maybe it's because NYC has borrowed Chicago's wind, Atlanta is experiencing Minneapolis type snow, and Miami warrants a scarf and ugg boots. What is going on in the states? Let's close our eyes...well actually keep them open, and dream about a fantastic wedding gown, blowing on a white sand beach. Maybe Jude Law is the the groom...maybe you are wearing this fabulous Marchesa gown that you bought HALF price at Bergdorf Goodman...

Ok now snap out of it. It will warm up soon, your fiancee is better than Jude Law (meaning: faithful) and this dress really is on sale at Bergdorf Goodman! What a great life.

Don't Call it a Comeback

New Wedding? Hardly. But as newlyweds nest, and new brides bloom, there is a pretty high turnover of eyeballs pursuing the wedding blogs. So why deprive the newbies of one of the weddings of the decade, nay, century? This wedding was featured in Vogue's March 2008 issue. The very lucky, make me drool with jealousy, socialite Lauren Santo Domingo not only had one of the most lavish weddings I've seen, but costume changes to rival the Oscars. Can you handle the dress that converts from a mermaid to a mini? One of the reasons we are starting Lovely is to cater to the bride with wedding dress mood swings...our prices will allow you to have it all!

A Girl Can Dream

Maybe only in my Sex and The City dream world would a bridesmaid party dress like this, but come on, how STUNNING would a chic pantsuit be on one of a bridesmaid trio?
